The Devil's Den

I’ve been through Hell and made it back,

I thought I was done and the devil would attack.

I fought so hard to keep him away,

But when things got hard I’d go back and play.

I didn’t understand that he didn’t want the best,

He just wanted me to use until I laid to rest.

Then one day his wish came true,

I stopped breathing and my lips turned blue.

The devil thought he won and gained another soul,

But he was wrong because my Higher Power was in control.

I got brought back to life and took a deep breath,

Realizing that playing in his den will lead me to death.

And that’s not what I wanted for my family or for me,

So I searched for the road called Recovery.

Now I take things as they come day by day,

Don’t get me wrong the devil still asks me to play.

But when that happens I remember where I’ve been,

And I know I don’t want to go back to the Devil’s Den!
